Provides access to the content of Bills before Parliament. The “Bills Digest” is created by the New Zealand Parliamentary Library staff and has a searchable content from 1998 onwards.

A Chinese language eResource that provides access to popular magazines on a wide variety of topics. The magazine content is available in both simplified and traditional Chinese characters.

eLibrary (Proquest)

Suitable for year six to nine, this database library covers a wide range of information and formats. It offers three methods of access; Searching, Topics and Reference Shelf. Plus a multimedia section which includes audio and video clips. Electric Library covers the Christchurch Press, Dominion, Evening Post, Sunday Star-Times, Waikato Times and a range of provincial titles.

Provides an intuitive search interface which makes this a great source for popular, business and professional topics. Coverage is general and specialised periodicals, from 1980 to the present day

GreenFILE (EBSCO)

Provides information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling and more.

Health and Wellness Resource Center [HWRC] (Gale)

HWRC is a comprehensive resource for the general public that provides integrated access to medical, statistical, health and wellness information in a variety of formats, including video clips, through an easy to use web site.

Using this database is not a substitute for seeing a doctor or nurse.

History Resource Center (Gale)

A very good resource for senior secondary history students. The content supports a core list of topics in several different formats which are required to fill marking requirements. This site is also very useful for casual enquires. The time line provided is particularly useful.

Index NZ (INNZ)

Provides information from New Zealand and Pacific Rim publications. INNZ is an index with abstracts for articles from nearly 300 journals and newspapers. Coverage is 1980 to the present.

Literature Resource Center (Gale)

This database is useful for locating details about authors and their works. Handy if you want to see a list of all of an author's works and biographical details. There is limited coverage of some of New Zealand 's more prominent authors.

Local History Online

Local History Online is an index to major articles from the suburban newspapers of the North Shore and West Auckland. Newspapers indexed include the North Shore Times, The Devonport Flagstaff, The Aucklander (North and West editions) and the Western Leader. Also included in this database is an index to a series of scrapbooks held at Devonport Library, which contain information about Devonport prior to its amalgamation with the other North Shore local authorities in 1989. From mid-2008 Local History Online will include the oral history and digital image collections of North Shore and Waitakere Libraries.

 

MasterFILE Premier (EBSCO)

This collection is ideal for general research enquiries and provides access to articles from over 2000 major international publications. Coverage starts in 1975. Also included in this database is an Image Collection of 192,999 photos, maps and flags. This database is updated daily.

Newztext daily newspapers and magazines (Knowledge Basket)

This fully searchable database of New Zealand serial publications includes most newspapers such as FairFax newspapers 1995 until 2002 and 2003 onwards, and magazines for example the National Business Review (NBR) and the Independent.

 

Novelist (EBSCO)

A fiction database that provides subject heading access, reviews, annotations and much more for over 120,000 fiction titles. Coverage includes children and young adult subject categories. Many New Zealand authors and their works are listed.

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center (Responsive Database Services [RDS])

With a focus on social issues, this database is useful for exploring differing points of view on a wide range of controversial topics. Formats include statistics, primary documents and links to websites.

Oxford Art Online

Online is a fully searchable database of the reference books of the same name, plus articles that have been added or updated since their appearance in print. Coverage includes biographies of artists from Australia and New Zealand . The art image collection enables access to many thousands of art image collections. This database is useful for students of art, history and literature. Taking the Guided Tour is recommended.

A unique source of scholarly information on the meaning, history and pronunciation of words both past and present.

 

Oxford Music Online

Online is a fully searchable database of the books of the same name, plus articles that have been added or updated since their appearance in print. It contains 500 musical examples as sound files from Sibelius.com. It gives some history and background to music in New Zealand

Press Display (NewspaperDirect, Inc)

Contains the digital image of over 250 papers from 55 countries (in translation if needed), including New Zealand . The papers are displayed using the original, language, format, lay out, pagination and colour. The site is searchable and papers are able to be manipulated using your mouse.

A cross searchable collection of online database comprised of:

Student Resource Center (Gale)

A database, that concentrates on the humanities. It is aimed at secondary students, and contains very helpful hints on how to do research and a comprehensive tool bar to aid users when refining their searches. Has some multi media coverage.

Tablebase (Responsive Database Services [RDS])

This database provided access to tabular and statistical business information. Examples of the information it provides are; figures on market share, market size, capacity and production. Tablebase is able to be searched geographically.

The Source - Magpies

An online database that helps the user search a wide range of children's literature by author and title. The Source includes fiction, poetry and teachers resources and includes a broad cross-section of New Zealand authors and information.

Te Puna

An online database of all the titles published in New Zealand libraries. Te Puna also gives access to a broad cross-section of items held by libraries in New Zealand , including those published overseas.

World Book Online

A very useful database, especially for people doing homework or completing assignments at primary school level. It is current, makes good brief succinct points and provides a method of referencing that will be useful to those who need to reference the information they find for school projects.
